CHEF’S SHOES – KEEPING THE BOSS OF THE KITCHENS ON HIS FEET
Being a chef is not an easy profession. What a chef does in the kitchen is very similar to what nurses, professors and instructors do in their respective domains—their job descriptions all require them to spend most of the duration of their daily work hours standing on their feet. Nurses do their ward rounds, professors spend consecutive hours standing in front of a class giving lectures, and dance and sports instructors of course have to move around the field or dance floor. As for chefs, they move around the wide kitchens of restaurants and hotels as they direct a group of cooks into a harmonious system of cooking for a very large number of people.

This is why chefs need to have shoes that are specially made for them in terms of functionality and design. It is important that they have comfortable shoes to wear to work. More than anything else, these will allow the chef to move freely around the kitchen without feeling any discomfort or stress. Remember that a serving kitchen is just like a multi-departmental office. There are different “departments” where cooks make dessert, soups, handle meat, etc… Chefs and their assistants will frequently move from one area to another as they create their culinary masterpieces.

Chefs usually wear plain white loafers to go with the basic chef’s uniform, which is commonly all white. Of course, the standard black chef’s shoes are also abundant.

Chef shoes are fully-closed slip-ons or loafers. This is to protect the feet from hot spills or sharp objects falling from the counters. They have long vamps or uppers that stretch from the top of the toes to the front base of the leg and with two triangular garter strips on either side. They may have an inch of a heel and thick bottom soles ComfortableFoot. Some variations are open laces, Oxford-style laces or monk straps.
